Cyprus Retail Sales Rise 4% YoY
Retail sales in Cyprus increased 4 percent year-on-year in September of 2019, following a downwardly revised 5.1 percent rise in August. Sales increased at a slower pace for food, drinks and tobacco (4.6 percent compared to 8 percent in August); textiles, clothing and footwear (7.1 percent compared to 9.4 percent); and computers and telecommunications equipment, curtains, carpets, books, stationery, sporting equipment, toys, flowers, plants, watches, jewellery (2 percent compared to 4.1 percent). On the other hand, sales of auto fuel rebounded (4.9 percent compared to -2.2 percent).

Cyprus Retail Sales Growth at Over 1-Year High
Retail sales in Cyprus surged 5.7 percent from a year earlier in August 2019, following a 4.7 percent rise in the previous month. It was the biggest gain in retail trade since June last year, boosted by sales of food products (7.3 percent vs 3.8 percent in July) and non-food products (5.9 percent vs 5.8 percent). Year-to-date, retail sales grew 2.2 percent compared to the same period a year ago. On a monthly basis, retail trade fell 3.9 percent, after rising 4.4 percent in the preceding month.

Cyprus Retail Sales Rise at a Faster Pace
Retail sales in Cyprus increased 4.7 percent from a year earlier in July 2019, following a 2.4 percent growth in the previous month, driven by sales of food products (3.8 percent vs 2.1 percent), automotive fuel (4.4 percent vs -3.9 percent), and non-food products (5.8 percent vs 4.2 percent). Within non-food, textiles, clothing, footwear sales grew by the most (10.9 percent vs 8.7 percent), followed by computers & telecommunications equipment, curtains, carpets, books, stationery, sporting equipment, toys, flowers, plants, watches, jewellery, etc. (5.3 percent vs 3.1 percent), and electrical household appliances, furniture, lighting equipment, construction materials, etc. (1.4 percent vs 3.1 percent).

Cyprus Retail Sales Rise 2.4% YoY in June
Retail sales in Cyprus increased 2.4 percent from a year earlier in June 2019, following a 2.7 percent gain in the previous month. Sales advanced at a slower pace for food (2.1 percent vs 2.5 percent in May) and non- food products (4.2 percent vs 4.4 percent). On a monthly basis, retail sales surged 6.2 percent, after a 3.1 percent increase in the prior month. Year-to-date, retail trade grew 2.5 percent over a year ago.

Cyprus Retail Sales Rise at Softer Pace
Retail sales in Cyprus increased 2.7 percent year-on-year in May 2019, easing from a 4.2 percent growth in the previous month, as non-food sales rose at a softer pace (4.4 percent vs 5.0 percent), in particular computers and telecommunications equipment, curtains, carpets, books, stationery, sporting equipment, toys, flowers, plants, watches, jewellery (1.9 percent vs 7.2 percent) and electrical household appliances, furniture, lighting equipment, construction materials, (5.2 percent vs 5.9 percent). Still, textiles, clothing, footwear trade growth accelerated to 5.4 percent from 2.4 percent. Meanwhile, food trade also increased at slower rate (2.5 percent vs 3.1 percent) while automotive fuel sales dropped (-2 percent vs 5.4 percent).

Cyprus Retail Sales Growth at 5-Month High of 4.2%
Retail sales in Cyprus rose 4.2 percent year-on-year in April 2019, following a downwardly revised 0.4 percent fall in the previous month. It was the biggest gain in retail trade since November. Sales rebounded sharply for both non-food products (5 percent vs -2.5 percent in April) and automotive fuel (5.4 percent vs -2.5 percent); and continued to advance for food (3.1 percent vs 1.8 percent). On a monthly basis, retail sales rose 4.2 percent, slowing from a downwardly revised 11.4 percent gain in the prior month. Considering the first four months of 2019, retail sales grew 2.4 percent compared to the same period of 2018.
