Malaysia Industrial Output Rises the Least in Near 4 Years
Industrial production in Malaysia rose by 0.3 percent year-on-year in October 2019, slowing from a 1.7 percent gain in the previous month. This was the weakest yearly increase in industrial output since a decline in December 2015, as manufacturing output growth slowed (2.2 percent vs 2.5 percent in September), mainly due to transport equipment and other manufactures (4.3 percent), non-metallic mineral products, basic metal & fabricated metal products (3.1 percent) and electrical and elecronic products (2.4 percent). In addition, electricity production increased much less (0.5 percent vs 4.1 percent). At the same time, mining output contracted more faster (-5.8 percent vs -1.6 percent), led by crude oil and condensate index (-5.1 percent) and natural gas (-6.3 percent). On a monthly basis industrial output fell by 1 percent in October, after a 0.3 percent drop in September.

Industrial production in Malaysia rose by 1.7 percent year-on-year in September 2019, the same as a downwardly revised figure in the previous month and compared to market consensus of a 1.9 percent increase. Manufacturing output growth slowed (2.5 percent vs 3.6 percent in August), mainly due to transport equipment and other manufactures (6.3 percent), non-metallic mineral products, basic metal & fabricated metal products (3.8 percent) and petroleum, chemicals, rubber and plastic products (2.1 percent). At the same time, there was a further decline in mining output (-1.6 percent vs -3.9 percent), mainly led by crude oil and condensate index (-4.7 percent). Meantime, electricity production picked up (4.1 percent vs 0.3 percent). On a monthly basis industrial output fell by 0.3 percent in September, after a 0.8 percent rise in August.

Industrial production in Malaysia rose by 1.9 percent year-on-year in August 2019, following a 1.2 percent gain in July but missing market expectations of a 2 percent increase. output growth was mainly driven by further rises in both manufacturing (3.7 percent vs 4 percent in July), namely non-metallic mineral products, basic metal & fabricated metal products (4.3 percent), electrical & electronics products (3.5 percent) and petroleum, chemical, rubber & plastic (2.8 percent); and electricity generation (0.3 percent vs 2 percent). In addition, mining production dropped less (-3.9 percent vs -8.4 percent), amid a softer decline in crude oil and condensate (-9.5 percent). On a monthly basis industrial output increased by 0.9 percent in August, the first monthly rise in four months, after a 0.4 percent fall in July.

Malaysia Industrial Output Grows the Least in 3-1/2 Years
Industrial production in Malaysia rose by 1.2 percent year-on-year in July 2019, slowing sharply from a 3.9 percent gain in June and missing market expectations of a 3.5 percent increase. This was the smallest yearly rise in industrial output since a 0.6 percent fall in December 2015, amid a slump in mining production (-8.4 percent vs 4.6 percent in June), mainly dragged down by crude oil and condensate (-22.7 percent vs 3.7 percent). Meantime, manufacturing output growth accelerated (4 percent vs 3.8 percent), namely transport equipment & other manufactures (5.8 percent vs 5.6 percent), electrical and electronic products (4.9 percent vs 3.5 percent), and petroleum, chemical, rubber & plastics (3.4 percent vs 3 percent). Also, electricity output expanded faster (2 percent vs 1.7 percent). On a monthly basis industrial output fell by 0.4 percent in July, the third straight month of monthly drop, after a 1.1 percent decline in June.

Industrial production in Malaysia rose by 3.9 percent year-on-year in June 2019, easing from a 4 percent gain in May and below market expectations of a 4.1 percent increase. This was the smallest yearly rise in industrial output since March, as manufacturing output grew softer (3.8 percent vs 4.2 percent in May), namely transport equipment & other manufactures (5.6 percent vs 6.9 percent), electrical and electronic products (3.5 percent vs 3.7 percent), and petroleum, chemical, rubber & plastics (3.0 percent vs 3.2 percent). Also, electricity output expanded less (1.7 percent vs 5.7 percent). Meanwhile, mining production rose at a faster 4.6 percent (vs 3 percent), mainly led by natural gas index (13 percent vs 7.6 percent). On a monthly basis industrial output fell by 1.1 percent in June, the second straight month monthly drop, after a 0.3 percent fall in May.

Malaysia Industrial Output Growth Holds at 6-Month High
Industrial production in Malaysia rose by 4 percent year-on-year in May 2019, the same pace as in April but beating market expectations of a 3.4 percent gain. It remained the biggest yearly rise in industrial output in six months, as manufacturing output grew further (4.2 percent vs 4.3 percent in April), namely transport equipment & other manufactures (6.9 percent), electrical and electronic products (3.7 percent), and petroleum, chemical, rubber & plastics (3.2 percentt). Also, electricity output continued to rise (5.7 percent vs 5.8 percent). At the same time, mining production rose at a faster 3 percent (vs 2.3 percent), mainly led by natural gas index (7.6 percent). On a monthly basis industrial output fell by 0.3 percent in May, the first monthly drop in three months, swinging from a 2 percent rise in April.
