US PCE Price Index Flat for 2nd Month
The personal consumption expenditure price index in the United States showed no growth for the second consecutive month in September 2019. Cost of goods declined 0.3 percent, unchanged from the previous month, as prices of nondurable goods fell (0.3 percent, the same as in August) and durable goods went down further (-0.4 percent from -0.2 percent). Also, cost of services advanced 0.1 percent, slowing from a 0.2 percent gain in August. Year-on-year, the PCE price index went up 1.3 percent, easing from a 1.4 percent rise in the prior month.

US PCE Price Index Unchanged in August
The personal consumption expenditure price index in the United States showed no growth from the previous month in August of 2019, after a 0.2 percent gain in July. Cost of goods fell 0.3 percent after increasing by 0.2 percent in the previous month, as prices fell for both nondurable goods (-0.3 percent from 0.5 percent in July) and durable goods (-0.2 percent from -0.4 percent). Also, cost of services went up 0.2 percent, easing from a 0.3 percent rise in July. Year-on-year, the PCE price index rose 1.4 percent, the same as in the previous month.

US PCE Prices Rise the Most in 3 Months
The personal consumption expenditure price index in the United States increased 0.2 percent month-over-month in July of 2019, following a 0.1 percent gain in each of the previous two months. It was the highest gain in PCE prices since April. Cost of goods rose 0.2 percent, rebounding from a 0.1 percent fall in June, boosted by a recovery in prices of non-durable goods (0.5 percent vs -0.4 percent) while durable goods cost fell (-0.4 percent vs 0.5 percent). Also, cost of services went up 0.2 percent, the same as in the previous month. Year-on-year, the PCE price index went up 1.4 percent, after a downwardly revised 1.3 percent advance in June.

US PCE Prices Rise 0.1% MoM in June
The personal consumption expenditure price index in the US increased 0.1 percent in June 2019, the same pace as in May. Cost of goods fell 0.1 percent, after a 0.1 percent gain in May, as a decline in nondurable goods (-0.4 percent compared to 0.1 percent) offset a rise in durable (0.5 percent compared to 0.1 percent). Prices for services advanced 0.2 percent, unchanged from the previous month. Year-on-year, the PCE price index went up 1.4 percent, the same as in the prior month and the core index increased 1.6 percent, above a 1.5 percent rise in May but below market expectations of 1.7 percent.

US PCE Prices Rise 0.2% MoM in May
The personal consumption expenditure (PCE) price index in the United States rose 0.2 percent from a month earlier in May 2019, easing from a 0.3 percent gain in April. Prices for services advanced 0.2 percent, slower than a 0.4 percent in the previous month; and cost of goods increased 0.1 percent, after rising 0.2 percent in April, of which nondurable (0.1 percent compared to 0.5 percent) while durable (0.1 percent compared to -0.4 percent). Year-on-year, the PCE price index went up 1.5 percent, below an upwardly revised 1.6 percent in April and the core index advanced 1.6 percent, the same as in the prior month and matching market expectations.

US PCE Prices Beat Forecasts
The personal consumption expenditure (PCE) price index in the United States increased 0.3 percent from a month earlier in April of 2019, up from a 0.2 percent rise in March and above market expectations of a 0.1 percent gain. Prices for services climbed 0.4 percent, faster than a 0.2 percent in March; and cost of goods advanced 0.2 percent, unchanged from the previous month, of which nondurables (0.5 percent compared to 0.6 percent) while durables (-0.4 percent from -0.5 percent). Year-on-year, the PCE price index increased 1.5 percent, following a downwardly revised 1.4 percent advance and in line with market consensus and the core index advanced 1.6 percent, above 1.5 percent in the previous month and also matching forecasts.
